Hey guys,
I obviously have a problem since ever since I bought my new laptop I have not been able to access any of my friends' ftp sites. It always says that I have to have permission to access this or that folder. I don't use any type of ftp client because I don't know how to use them and don't know where to find them. So if anyone can, please help and let me know what changes I have to make to IE7 to access the ftp sites? I know Vista is a pain in the butt for most but since it's all I have and it's working ok, I shouldn't complain. Please help. Thanks.

Araceli,

You could use FileZilla (you can find a link to it on the www.jaws-users.com website, under the Programs section). This is a very easy-to-use program--just enter the server address, port number, user name, and password and press the Quickconnect button. There's also a Site Manager which allows you to save the connection settings for frequently-used servers. And, an obvious thing: I wouldn't recommend this unless it was screen-reader accessible!

Tyler

P.S.: Once you are connected, you'll have to press <Tab> a few times, but you'll eventually get over to the remote site's directory listing.

Why can't you just go in to the stupid thing like you could with xp though? Surely you must be able to, seeing as I really can't be bothered downloading a client that I'm probably not going to use.

You can access FTP sites in Vista just like you can in XP. You just need to be sure that the person who has the FTP server set the correct permissions. I use File Zilla as my FTP client. It works great with Vista. You can also access FTP servers with Internet Explorer.

Accessing them with internet explorer is crappy.... Use Mozilla, Firefox is better then Internet exploiter

That's because FTP is FileZilla's purpose. I use both FileZilla apps. The client's rather accessible, and I use the server running under the XAMPP distribution for Win32. The server's GUI is very accessible as well, but for the most accessibility, one could modify the fileZillaServer.xml file to change settings.
